Hellicane was launched September 2, 2005, during the first week of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. It collects and presents poems by, for and about those affected by the tragic Gulf Coast hurricanes of 2005. Averaging 200-300 visitors a day, it is the largest and most-visited site on the Internet dedicated to original hurricane-related poetry. The site's other features: online poetry submission form; GuestMap to leave messages of support for the people of the U.S. Gulf Coast; lively comments forums for weighing in on the poems; and site feed for automatic notification as new poems are added. Hellicane is produced by the San Diego-based podcaster and blogger known as PodPoet.
